¿Qué función tiene el cilindro de la moto?

What is it?

The cylinder houses the pistons, where they move. It is the place where the pistons move to produce the energy needed in motorcycles with an internal combustion engine. The cylinder, located in the engine block, owes its name to its cylindrical shape. The combustion necessary for a motorcycle to operate occurs inside it; it is responsible for providing the engine with mechanical force.

Cylinders are metal parts made from strong alloys to withstand wear and the high temperatures generated during the combustion process throughout their useful life. The internal structure of the cylinders is built as smooth as possible to avoid friction.

What is its function?

Its main function is to allow the piston to move within its interior. It works as follows: gasoline and air are injected into the cylinder as the piston moves downward. As it rises, the mixture is compressed and explodes due to the spark from the spark plug. The piston moves downward again, and combustion occurs. When the piston rises again, the burnt gases are eliminated.

Indispensable…

All engines require a cylinder to ensure the piston's functionality. It's also necessary to generate crankshaft rotation and, consequently, achieve the required starting torque, power, and acceleration, all linked in a single process determined by the cylinder.

The cylinder is responsible for providing mechanical force to the engine. It is what makes motorcycles move. Of all the parts found in a motorcycle engine, it is one of the most important.
