When should I change my motorcycle tires?

Andrea Vasquez
It's a very common question our biker friends ask about when to change the tires on my motorcycle.
Bikers, remember that tires in poor condition can impair your motorcycle's performance and jeopardize your safety. Therefore, it's recommended that you check the condition of your tires, including the depth of their treads, damage caused by impacts or a foreign object on the road, and check your tire pressure twice a month.

The most common reasons for changing the tires on our motorcycle may be:

  1. Punctures

Our motorcycle tires are durable and designed to withstand a certain amount of impact, but sometimes they get punctured. Therefore, if this happens to you, it's advisable to have a professional mechanic check the tire to confirm that it hasn't suffered serious damage.

  1. The tires show signs of aging

It's difficult to predict a tire's lifespan, as it has nothing to do with the date of manufacture. Tires that have never been used or are lightly used may show signs of aging. Many factors can affect lifespan: climate, storage and usage conditions, load, speed, tire pressure, maintenance, driving style, etc.

We recommend taking the time to periodically check your tires for signs of aging or wear, such as deformations or cracks in the tread, shoulders, or sidewalls.
You should also take the tires to a professional to evaluate whether or not they should be replaced.

Take the 5-year test before it's too late.

After five years of use, a professional mechanic should inspect your tires annually. If they need to be replaced, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for replacing original parts. As a precautionary measure, all tires should be replaced after ten years, even if they appear to be in good condition and the tread wear indicator has not been reached.

  1. The rim is damaged

Biker remembers that pavement, potholes, or blunt objects can cause serious damage to tires. A professional mechanic should carefully inspect all tears, cuts, or deformations, as only they can confirm whether the tire can be repaired.
As a general rule, you should not drive on damaged or flat tires.

  1. The tires are not correct for your motorcycle

Bikers, choose your tires according to legal requirements and the tire type recommended for your motorcycle. For optimal performance, use front and rear tires with the same tread pattern. Tires with different designs, tread patterns, and wear patterns can affect vehicle balance and stability. Never install a radial tire and a conventional tire on the same vehicle unless specified by the manufacturer.
