¿Sabes qué significan los números en tus llantas?

Tires are the only part of the motorcycle that comes into contact with the road, and that's why they're so important. Various codes appear on their sides with important meanings about the motorcycle's technical specifications. Do you know them all?

You may never have noticed, but each of your motorcycle's tires contains a huge amount of information about its performance. The first thing we notice, and the most notable, is the tire brand and model. This information is obvious, but it doesn't provide any real insight into the tire's performance.

70 is a ratio of the section height (the height of the tire) to its width, expressed as a percentage. In this case, it means that the height of our tire is 70% of its width, or 84 millimeters. The R represents the inches of the rim on which the tire will be mounted, in this case 19.

The M/C inscription indicates that it is a motorcycle-only model. Then, we see both two numbers and a letter. The numbers indicate the vehicle's maximum load, while the letter indicates the maximum speed it can reach. In this case, V means the "fastest" tire, capable of speeds up to 240 km/h. Regarding weight, the indications range from 20 to 87. To decipher these numbers, this table of globally standardized codes is used.

Tubeless Radial indicates the type of rim (without a tire) and radial construction. The code, which begins with E4, indicates the European approval standard it meets, followed by the reference code for the approval it has obtained. If the rim is approved for use in the USA and Canada, the DOT (Department of Transport) mark appears, followed by one of the most important codes, the manufacturing date. This refers first to week "36" and then to year "15."
